I'm back with another Beautiful People linkup! :D Hosted by Cait and Sky, their linkup lets writers explore their characters, and show them off to the world. :3 February's linkup is, naturally, related to Valentine's Day happenings (yes, I know it's belated, but oh well). :D So this month, I want to introduce to you one of my most favorite ships in my fantasy novel. Mordir and Iluna. :3 Mordir's an assassin, and Iluna's the daughter of a nobleman. I love them both so much and their relationship, while it is strained (because assassin), is really lovely. :3
But I'll not fangirl yet, and let you all see for yourselves how awesome these two are. :3
1. How did they first meet?
They met in the bedroom of Iluna's murdered uncle. Her uncle was murdered by Mordir.
Mordir was hired, along with a handful of other no-good criminals from the rogue camp he resides in, to assassinate several people who would be attending a party at Iluna's father's mansion. Iluna's uncle was at the wine a little too long, and taken up to bed. Iluna, fully intending to woo the young men of the party, is eventually sent up to check on him and make sure he made it there safely.
Her uncle did indeed make it there, but Mordir was waiting. Iluna walked in just seconds after Mordir assassinated him. However, Mordir hadn't yet made his escape, and he was seen by Iluna. Downstairs one of the rogues botches his assassination and that sounds the alarm. And since Mordir makes it his policy to never kill women, and he can't very well leave her there as a witness, he kidnaps her and takes her with him.
And thus begins their love story. B)
2. What were their first impressions of each other?
Mordir found her a nuisance, but he's stuck with either keeping her or killing her, and he didn't want to kill her. He thinks she's pretty, too, but she grated on his nerves.
Iluna despised Mordir's guts. He's a murderer, he was vulgar, and kept her tied up in his little cave. Even though he kept the worst of the vulgar rogues away, she still hated him with a passion all of her saucy attitude could muster (it's a lot).
3. How long have they been a couple?
About five years. They met at 18, and I think they married at 19. They have two children, a boy, Zinaan, and a girl, Ivy. :3
4. How committed/loyal are they to each other? Would they break up over a secret or disagreement? Could stress drive them apart? Would they die for each other?
It depends on the day, really. Mordir is gone more often than he is at home, since his assassin-ry takes him everywhere. They do love each other, but his work adds stress to their relationship. He does what he does because he believes it's all he's good for (due to tragedies in his past), and her reasoning with him does little good. When she tries, it often deteriorates into a fight. She keeps his occupation secret from any nosy neighbors, but it creates stress. Iluna hates seeing him like this, and gets frustrated when he won't listen to reason.
However, Mordir would die for her any day. They do love each other, and Iluna is one of the reasons he keeps living. He believes he's meant to kill, someone who brings death, and he's found someone he doesn't want death to visit. The idea of losing her scares him. Fairy would die for him too, but she would likely have to fight him for that honor. ;)
5. List 5 "food" quirks they know about each other. (Ex: how they take their coffee, if they're allergic to something, etc... and feel free to mention other non-food quirks!)
Food quirks. o.O I don't know if they have any... Let's make something up, because I can. <_>_>
1. Iluna knows Mordir likes potatoes. (this one I actually already knew)
2. Mordir doesn't drink any liquor, at least not anymore (or at the very least not as much as he used to). I think he might get intoxicated easily, and one time when he did trouble took advantage of his moment of drunken stupor.
3. Iluna like sweet, rich pastries, because back home she would have them all the time. But now money is not as forthcoming as it was then.
4. Moridr likes to hunt his own meat, both when he's traveling and when he's at home.
5. Iluna like to try different spices in her cooking (with varying degrees of success).
6. Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?
Oh yes. Iluna's father disapproves to the moon and back. Her mother does too, but her father is much more vocal about it. He would take Iluna and the children away if he could, and if Mordir hadn't swept them off to some unknown place (for Iluna and the children's safety, not just because of her father), he would have Mordir killed if it wouldn't devastate his daughter. It was his brother Mordir assassinated.
7. What would be an ideal date?
A quiet night at home, the kiddos in bed early, just him and her... who knows where the night will lead? ;)
8. What are their personality dynamics? Similar? Contrasting? Do they fight a lot or do they mesh perfectly?
Both of them can be rather headstrong, so they butt heads often, usually over the issue of Mordir's occupation. They do get along, and love each other immensely, but his job generates the majority of their fights. But their stubbornness might also be the reason they haven't split. She's set on helping him, and he'll fight to keep what they have alive and going. Fighting aside, their personalities are a bit different. Iluna likes to socialize, and Mordir prefers to be alone, or to be with only the ones he loves. Iluna can stay within doors, but if Mordir is made to stay indoors for too long, he gets stir crazy. He likes travel, sleeping under the stars.
9. What have been their best and worst moments together as a couple?
Best and worse... worst moments are probably when their fighting escalates to the point that Mordir is afraid that Iluna will leave him this time, taking the kids with her. That terrifies him, and when their fights reach that point, the panic kicks in, but he can't bring himself to change, and Iluna in her turn is too proud to give in either.
Their best moments are when their children are born, or shortly after that. Mordir's never been present when his two children were born, but coming home shortly after their birth and holding them close have been the best memories they have, sitting with their little ones. :3
10. Where do they see themselves and their relationship in the next few years?
Well, in the novel they just hope to survive the oncoming war, hopefully together. Mordir aims to protect them from the war, so he risks defying the emperor to help the rebels. Iluna hopes that one day Mordir will end his assassin days, and deep down Mordir wants that too, but his past keeps him from dwelling too much on it.
So there you go. :3 What do you think of Mordiluna (yay for ship names!)? They'll be appearing in my novel when it's published, so you can find out their real names. ;) I hope you enjoyed. ^_^
What's your favorite ship you've written? :D Tell me all about them. :3
